Aleashia and Jarrad have been operating Great Southern Yarn since 2023, pouring their heart and soul into producing the finest yarns possible.

From Fleece to Fibre

It all begins with the fleece. Our merino wool is sourced from the Lyons Family of Mt Bodangora Merino Farm and spun by Peter Chatterton at Design Spun Mills. We are proud to work with specialty, 100% SRS (Soft Rolled Skin) Merino fleece, turning it into some of the softest, strongest, and most enjoyable yarn on the Australian market. The yarn is silky smooth with incredible stitch definition, making it a pleasure to knit and crochet with.

In addition to 100% SRS Merino, we offer blends including 80/20 Merino/Nylon, Merino/Alpaca, and single-spun Merino, catering to a variety of projects and preferences.

Ethical, Single-Origin Sourcing

Our wool is sourced directly from single-origin farms, under ethical agreements with the farmers. Suppliers are selected not only for the quality of their product, but also for their commitment to animal welfare and sustainable practices.

Once harvested, our raw fleeces are exported to Canterbury Wool Scours in Timaru, New Zealand for processing, and then sent to Design Spun Mills in Napier for spinning into the beautiful yarns we offer.
