Zakami Yarns

Zakami Yarns is a small, family-run company based in Edinburgh, Scotland, creating hand-dyed yarns in small batches. Each skein is carefully crafted in their studio and shipped worldwide, offering makers yarns as unique as their projects.

The company is run by Melinda and Gergely, who pour their hearts into every skein. Melinda’s love of knitting and crochet began as a child, learning from her grandmother, and inspires the distinctive colourways Zakami is known for. For both Melinda and Gergely, yarn is more than a material—it’s a way to connect, build community, and create lasting memories.

Their dream is to one day run their own alpaca farm, a vision nurtured through travel and volunteering on farms. When not dyeing, they enjoy exploring local walks, discovering cafés, and travelling — with Peru at the top of their bucket list.

Mindful crafting and sustainability are central to their practice. Zakami Yarns uses low-impact professional dyes, recycles water throughout dye lots, and ensures all packaging is recyclable or compostable.

Zakami yarns are currently exclusive to Grumpy Ginger Yarn Company. The yarn base combines softness, structure, and a touch of rustic charm, making it perfect for shawls, sweaters, and textured stitch patterns. Soft, lustrous, and warm, it drapes beautifully while holding its shape, with a gentle halo and rustic elegance that makes every project special — a must-try for knitters exploring breed-specific yarns.
