Intro To Algorithmic Stitch Patterns
In this class we will create texture, colorwork or lace using rule based guides instead of restrictive instructions. Unlike a traditional pattern that always produces the same result, projects based on algorithims (rules) have an element of randomness.
In the first part of the class, we will discuss how to create simple but unique stitch motifs and colourwork based on anything from the roll of a dice to the number of steps you take in a day. We will go over a range of techniques that produce stunning results. I will demonstrate how to plan a temperature blanket inspired project from a set of data.
Each student will work on a swatch or a mini shawl in class using their own set of rules. Everyoe will share their results and discuss how each rule affected the outcome of their stitch pattern.

Pre Requisites:
Open to all levels and crafts.
What to bring:
4+ balls of yarn in any weight. Bring mostly solid colours. Needles/hooks in appropriate size for your yarns. A pencil and notebook or scratch paper. Dice will be available, but students are encouraged to bring their own.
Optional:
Colur card for project yarn, colouring supplies to match your yarn, a set of data (such as daily aveage temperatures from 1975)

Who is Xandy Peters:
Xandy Peters is a knitting designer and teacher, best known as the innovator of the stacked stitch technique and for the Fox Paws pattern. Starting out as a footwear and product designer, he turned to knitting as a way to explore textiles and surfaces without using factory production and has since made a career out of publishing new patterns and teaching workshops. Xandy has been published in magazines such as Vogue Knitting, Twist Collective, Knitscene, Knitty, and Pom Pom Quarterly, has a Craftsy class teaching the stacked stitch technique and continues to self publish patterns on a regular basis.
