This Class Covers:

Let's dive into the exciting technique of bead embroidery! Incorporating glass beads into your hand-knitted garments or accessories will elevate your pieces, lending them a unique look and creating depth with a new texture. This technique can also be applied to commercially made knitwear. Do you have a favorite sweater in your closet with a small hole or a stubborn spot that just won't come out? You can transform it with a stunning beaded design embroidered on top! From hats and scarves to cardigans and sweaters, the possibilities are endless.

In this class, I'll guide you step-by-step through the process of embroidering with beads in various styles. We'll also explore how to apply beaded embroidery to heavily textured pieces - there’s a little secret there that I'd love to share with you! To inspire your future projects, I'll showcase multiple samples of this beautiful technique in an array of colors and techniques.

Class Requirements:

  • Light to medium weight hand-knitted, or commercially made knitted garment with minimum texture (no heavy cables). Look for something that is in fingering to light worsted weight range. OR, you can make 8 inch by 8 inch swatch in this yarn weight range.

  • Two 7 inch by 7 inch pieces of water soluble interfacing, one with rose design transferred (please see Rose Bead Embroidery pattern for details).

  • Beading needle size 10, or 12.

  • Strong cotton thread in color that is matching your garment, or swatch.

  • Embroidery hoop 5 inch in diameter, or smaller.

  • Glass beads size 11/0 in colors: in green; light, medium and dark shades of pink, or blue, or yellow (colors of the rose).

  • Please print Rose Bead Embroidery pattern prior to class, or have it open on an electronic device.

  • You can gather all the supplies for the day of the class and work on a sample during the session, or simply watch, ask questions, and create your sample later with the help of the handout and insights gained from the class — while observing the exact materials used by the instructor.
