Bumper Workshop – Introduction to Crochet & Granny Squares
Due to popular demand, we’ve combined our two introduction classes into one full-day bumper workshop!
Please note this is a full-day session covering both Introduction to Crochet and Granny Squares.

Who’s it for?
Absolute beginners – no prior experience required.
Part 1 - Introduction to Crochet
Join us for a relaxed introduction to the art of crochet. This beginner-friendly workshop is designed to help you start your crochet journey by learning the essential building blocks of all crochet projects.
We will cover the fundamentals, including how to hold your hook, make a slip knot, and work basic stitches.
What You’ll Learn:
• How to hold your hook and yarn correctly
• How to attach yarn and begin crocheting
• Fundamental tools and materials (yarns, hooks, and supplies)
• Basic stitches: chain, double, treble (UK terms) / chain, single, double crochet (US terms)
The focus is on practising each technique to build confidence, finishing with a small sample swatch worked in rows.
By the end of this session, you’ll have the skills needed to begin your crochet journey.
Part 2 – Introduction to Granny Squares
One of the most iconic foundations of crochet, the granny square is fun, versatile, and endlessly creative. In this section of the workshop, Leanne will guide you step-by-step through the process of creating and joining granny squares.
What You’ll Learn:
• How to make a traditional granny square
• How to change colours
• How to join granny squares together
• Basic understanding of written crochet terms and patterns
This is a hands-on class with plenty of time to practise, ask questions, and build confidence.
What to Bring:
• Yarn of your choice (we recommend 8 ply or 10 ply in solid, light colours)
• Crochet hook:
– 4.5 mm or 5.0 mm for 8 ply
– 5.5 mm or 6.0 mm for 10 ply
• Scissors
• Stitch markers (optional)
• 2.5 mm or 3.0 mm crochet hook (optional)
Yarn and hooks will also be available for purchase on the day.

Prerequisites:
None. This workshop is designed specifically for absolute beginners who have never held a hook and yarn before.
